Ashes to Ascent Coaching
Darren Richardson is a Mindset and Mental Performance Coach, motivational speaker, and founder of Ashes to Ascent Coaching with a unique background as a former firefighter/paramedic and 2-time amputee, bringing 18 years of firsthand experience in high-pressure emergency services. Darren’s journey began in a home marked by his father’s absence, struggle with alcohol, and the lessons of generational trauma. At 13 years old, he endured a traumatic childhood accident, where a boulder crushed his foot and resulted in multiple surgeries and a partial foot amputation. This early challenge sparked a spirit of resilience—one that has defined his personal and professional path ever since.
After serving in the fire service where he experienced countless traumatic events, Darren faced and overcame the life-altering impacts of PTSD—experiencing depression, anger, loss of i dentity, alcohol misuse, and ultimately reaching his “rock bottom.” He sought help, committed to therapy, and began rebuilding his life and identity, deciding not only to recover but to use his setbacks as fuel for growth. His story took a new turn while training to return to the fire service when a second amputation took half his foot, yet once more, Darren rose above adversity, living the “rise from the ashes” mindset he now teaches.
Today, Darren coaches dedicated individuals who are committed to overcoming their challenges, with a particular emphasis on first responders, military veterans, and amputees—guiding them to rebuild identity and transform pain into purpose through positive mindset techniques, structured physical training, and peer-to-peer understanding. Through Ashes to Ascent Coaching, he channels his experience into one-on-one and group coaching sessions, motivational speaking, and mentorship, helping clients navigate PTSD, identity loss, and major life transitions with practical tools rooted in mindset, movement, and lived experience. He also volunteers as a mentor on a first responder clinician support team, offering relatable guidance to those seeking help from someone who has lived both the job and the trauma. In addition, he shares his story on stages and podcasts, advocating for mental health awareness among first responders, veterans, and amputees.
Darren holds a B.A. in Kinesiology, is a former certified NREMT-Paramedic and IFSAC Firefighter II, FTO, and is a South Metro Fire Department Medal of Honor recipient. He remains dedicated to the service of those who serve, inspiring clients to rediscover their strength and potential.
